ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

RESIDENCY TRAINING

Head of Residency Admissions: Edgard M. Simon, MD, DPBA, FPSA

Head of Pre-residency Program: Sheila B. Espina-Bertoso, MD, DPBA, FPSA

The applicant must fulfill the following: 

  •  A graduate of a duly recognized and accredited medical school

  • Passed the Philippine Medical Licensure Examination

  • Demonstrates high standard of ethical and moral behavioral

  • Of physical and psychological fitness

  • Has no documented current abuse of alcohol or illegal use of drugs

  • Certificate of class ranking and GWA

  • Transcript of Records

  • Doctor of Medicine Diploma

  • Board Rating

  • Certificate of Internship

  • Duly accomplished application form from the Office of the Deputy Director for Health Operations

 

 

 

     Applicants for residency must submit the  application form and documents to the Office of the Deputy Director for Health Operations. After an initial screening, selected applicants will be called for an interview and psychosocial profile evaluation. Another screening will be done based on consolidated reports from the interview, psychosocial profile and credentials of the candidates. Accepted applicants will be notified and will undergo a series of didactic lectures and clinical exposure for two to four weeks, known as the pre residency period.

     Once recommended to the director, the Human Resource Division will request additional documents from the applicants to process their appointment as a government employee. Accepted applicants are given a Medical Officer III item with Salary Grade 21 compensation and full benefits of a government employee. Available positions will depend on the number of vacated items. The official start of appointment is the 1st of January of the following year

FELLOWSHIP TRAINING

Head of Fellowship Admissions: Respective section chiefs

The applicant for fellowship must fulfill the following:

  • Graduate of a duly recognized and accredited Anesthesia residency training program

  • Passed the Philippine Medical Licensure Examination

  • Passed the PBA Written Examination

  • Demonstrates high standard of ethical and moral behavior

  • Of physical and psychological fitness

  • Has no documented current abuse of alcohol or illegal use of drugs

  • For PGH graduates: approved and completed research work

  • Certificate of class ranking and GWA

  • Certificate of Residency

  • Transcript of Records

  • Doctor of Medicine Diploma

  • Board Rating

  • Certificate of Internship

  • Duly accomplished application form from the Office of the Deputy Director for Health Operations

 

     The applicant must submit a letter of intent to the chair of the department through the section chief of the subspecialty program. The letter of intent may be submitted directly to the Department of Anesthesiology Executive Office, 3rd Floor, Main Building, Philippine General Hospital. Selection process varies across different sections but commonly involves interview and a review of credentials. Accepted applicants will be notified and asked to report for pre fellowship.  

     Depending on the availability of items, fellows are given the Medical Officer IV item, with Salary Grade 23 compensation and full benefits of a government employee. In the absence of this position and with the availability of a Medical Officer III position, the fellow may be given this position instead. In the absence of both items, the fellow will receive a monthly honorarium and PhilHealth shares from the hospital. Lateral entrants (fellows with items from their base hospital) are also allowed, but acceptance will depend on the respective admission committees of each program.
