The Department of Anesthesiology is a constituent department of the University of the Philippines Manila, College of Medicine. The department offers training and courses to undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows. Education centers on the department's core pillars: service, training and research with the aim of producing academicians and clinicians who will excel and lead in the field. With its academic roots, the department is one in upholding the university's motto of Honor and Excellence.
The university administers and operate the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) , a tertiary state-owned hospital, designated as the National University Hospital. It has a 1,500-bed capacity offering services both to indigent and private patients. It is the laboratory hospital of health science students enrolled in the University of the Philippines including students of medicine, nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, occupational therapy, dentistry, and speech pathology. There are 15 clinical departments— Family and Community Medicine, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurosciences, Pediatrics, Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiology, Pathology, Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology—all of which offer residency and fellowship training.
The campus is bounded by Taft Avenue along its main entrance and the streets of Pedro Gil and Padre Faura. It is connected to the railway grid of Manila through the Pedro Gil Station of LRT-1. Buses and jeepneys are also accessible along Taft Avenue. Employees are given the privilege to park private vehicles inside the hospital premises upon submission of documents.
Employees may apply for accommodations inside the hospital premises for a very minimal fee. The campus is also surrounded by privately owned apartments and condominiums that can be rented for Php 4,000-20,000/ month (US$ 80-400).
