The Department of Anesthesiology is a constituent department of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. The department offers training and courses to undergraduate medical  students, residents and fellows. Education centers on the department's core pillars: service, training and research with the aim of producing academicians and clinicians who will excel and lead in the field. With its academic roots, the department is one in upholding the  university's motto of Honor and Excellence.

Residency Program

The Anesthesiology residency is a continuous 36- month (3 years) modular training program. The resident trainee is expected to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors required of a competent specialist, to develop a critical mind to available scientific and clinical information and possess personal characteristics essential to the ethical and safe practice of medicine by the end of the training period.

Fellowship Program

We offer post residency fellowship training in various subspecialties in anesthesia. These are advanced training and higher learning modules aimed for trainees wishing to pursue a practice in the subspecialty independently and as a consultant.

Observership Program

Senior residents from PBA-accredited training programs are given opportunities to participate in the clinical and teaching activities of the department as per memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the PGH and the trainee’s institution and PBA approval.

Undergraduate Program

The Department of Anesthesiology offers regular courses to medical students from the college, as well as elective courses that are open to students from other local and international medical schools. The courses offer didactic lectures and clinical exposure to students to introduce students to anesthesiology, perioperative medicine and pain management.
