The Observership Program is offered in various subspecialty

areas. It is offered to trainees from other institutions with PBA

accredited training programs to immerse into the service

and training activities of the department  under a

memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Philippine General

Hospital and the PBA-accredited training institution. 

Currently, the department offers the program on the following


  • Ambulatory Surgery

  • Neuroanesthesia

  • Non-Operating Room Anesthesia

  • Ophthalmology

  • Orthopedic-Spine​

  • Pediatric Surgery

  • Chronic Pain

  • Regional Anesthesia

  • Thoracic and Cardiovascular Anesthesia

The following institutions have an existing/previous Observership agreement with the department:

  • Baguio General Hospital

  • Batangas Regional Hospital

  • Bicol Regional Hospital

  • Cagayan Valley Medical Center

  • Cardinal Santos Medical Center

  • Manila Adventist Medical Center

  • Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center

  • Tarlac Provincial Hospital

  • The Medical City

  • Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center

  • West Visayas State University Medical Center

  • Zamboanga Medical Center

Requests for observership may be submitted to the department either through email or personal submission of a letter addressed to the chair. The ideal time to express the intent is the latter part of the year for observers who will rotate for the following year. Please indicate the requested module/s, date and name of rotators and submit the letter before the deadline. Prioritization in the schedule will be on a first-come-first-served basis. 

The department would like to ensure equal opportunities for all requesting institutions and to maximize the exposure of residents, only one observer will be scheduled for each module for a duration of two weeks. Observership will start after the first quarter of the year.

The observer must also fulfill the following:

  • At least a Third Year resident trainee of an accredited training program of Anesthesiology in the Philippines

  • Passed the Philippine Medical Licensure Examination

  • Demonstrates high standard of ethical and moral behavior

  • Of physical and psychological fitness

  • Has no documented current abuse of alcohol or illegal use of drugs
